Action items for equitable housing

Let the City of Wilsonville know that you support inclusive, diverse, and equitable housing in our community! Check out the action opportunities below.

The WAIC housing equity action team met and talked about the purpose of our group as a monthly space for connection and identifying opportunities for coordination and action for the next month.

With that said, there’s a lot going on right now.

Here’s a list of action opportunities (feel free to share with others):

1. Contact the Development Review Board (email) in favor of the Villebois village center application by Sept 27 and City Council (email) by Oct 4.

Completing the center of Villebois’ piazza area has long been in the plans and this development was called for in the Equitable Housing Strategic Plan, which WAIC supports.

2. Attend a middle housing construction training on Sept 29 at 10am.

3. Contact City Council (email) in favor of the middle housing zoning update by Oct 4.

Middle housing zoning update was called for in the Equitable Housing Strategic Plan, which WAIC supports. It recently passed the Planning Commission with unanimous support.

 4. City of Wilsonville is beginning to look at new, transit-oriented development at the SMART transit center. Contact City Council (email) in favor of continuing to pursue this idea by Oct 4.

This is at the beginning of a land use and economic study to best determine what type of development would be best (see Council packet). Transit-oriented development at the SMART transit center was called for in the Equitable Housing Strategic Plan, which WAIC supports.

5. Courtney is working on an education campaign to dispel myths about recent state legislation to help people experiencing homelessness not be criminalized for sleeping. Contact her (email) if you want to help.

Emergency housing needs were a WAIC priority and were called for in the Equitable Housing Strategic Plan, which WAIC supports.

 6. Lyn is looking to coordinate with a mobile shower unit and get a washer and dryer for Heart of the City to serve people who have immediate housing needs. Longer-term, she would love to find or develop a place in Wilsonville for people to have emergency housing. Contact her (email) if you want to help.

Emergency housing needs were a WAIC priority and were called for in the Equitable Housing Strategic Plan, which WAIC supports.

7. Rosann is following the vertical housing development zones discussion Wilsonville City Council is having in Town Center and Villebois. Contact her (email) if you want to help.

Verticle housing development zones were called for in the Equitable Housing Strategic Plan, which WAIC supports.
