2023 in Review
In coordination with the Oregon Humanities Conversation Project and facilitator Chisao Hata, we hosted an event called, “Can We All Get Along?” It was an awesome night. Around 35 people attended and you can read the recap here.
We helped promote the Speaker Series and Juneteenth event, which are hosted by the City of Wilsonville’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) committee, through our website and newsletter. Be sure to sign up for email updates on the City’s website.
We helped promote events hosted by our partner organizations, such as the West Linn Alliance for Inclusive Community, Wilsonville Library, and Oregon Humanities, through our website and newsletter.
We supported and celebrated the formation of a monthly meeting about housing services coordination, which has been hosted by the wonderful people at Heart of the City. This a major step towards better coordination to address the issue of homelessness in our community.
We hosted an emergency housing bus tour that was attended by state and local elected officials, local housing developers, and housing service providers. The event was hosted in coordination with the Homebuilders Foundation, Heart of the City, and Family Promise of Tualatin Valley. A huge thank you to West Linn-Wilsonville School District for providing the bus transportation that made this possible.
We provided weekly communications updates through April. These highlight local stories and events that are serving to advance DEI in Wilsonville and surrounding communities.
We attended and wrote a recap of the West Linn-Wilsonville School District’s Equity Summit.
We held a WAIC gathering, which 11 people attended. We reflected upon a TED talk, conducted an asset mapping exercise, and enjoyed Jay’s selection of quality jazz. We talked about priority actions for 2024.
We began involvement with the Department of Land Conservation and Development’s Oregon Housing Needs Analysis Rulemaking Advisory Committee as a housing advocacy organization.
Important and necessary internal things that help us hold awesome events!
We maintained the website and responded to over 50 emails with requests for events and engagement. We changed from MailChimp to Squarespace to lower costs and streamline the communications process. Our current email list is around 1,600 people strong! We received pro bono design help to create a “donate” link on the website and set up the back-end financial connections to receive and track donations. We maintained the budget by transitioning payment for the events and website over to a central account.

2024, Looking Forward
Coming soon, the rescheduled “Housing and Belonging” community event. This will be in coordination with Oregon Humanities and led by facilitator Reeva Wortel.
February 21 at 7 pm will kick off our WAIC gatherings. Gatherings start with a DEI practice to learn more about each other and are followed by talking about how we can organize and act. Food and music are always included! We plan to hold these bi-monthly starting in February at Clackamas County Community College’s Wilsonville Campus.
BIG ASK FOR 2024: We’re going to need others to step into roles to represent the organization and keep the wheels running.
After five individuals were identified as our leaders in 2019 (Co-Chairs, Secretary, and Treasurer), we’ve reached our time to find new voices. Read about this in “The Team” section on our website. If you are interested, please read the position descriptions and email us with any questions or if you would like to discuss this further!
