EVENT RECAP: WAIC gathering on November 16
On Wednesday evening, 11 people gathered to take the next step in pursuing a diverse, equitable, and inclusive Wilsonville. We accomplished the following:
Reflected upon the emergency housing tour and talked about the goals of the Housing Equity Action Team. In the near term, we hope to help Heart of the City get laundry and shower facilities. In the long term, we are looking to build our coalition of partners to get emergency housing, that is well-managed and connected to resources, here in Wilsonville.
Mark your calendars for January 18, 2023, at 6:30 pm! We will have a fantastic community dialogue event titled, “Can’t We All Just Get Along.” This will be a joint venture between WAIC and the Oregon Humanities Conversation Project. Facilitator and artist Chisao Hata will be our guide for the evening.
The Wilsonville Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee is planning for Juneteenth 2023 by getting sponsors in place now! If you are interested in supporting this event, please contact us!
We discussed how we can inclusively make decisions as an organization. This was a robust conversation that recognized the benefits of our current system and identified areas for improvement.
We watched and then reflected upon a TEDx video by Tai Simpson who spoke about the intergenerational wisdom woven into Indigenous stories.
We discussed the need for people to help fill roles within the organization (e.g. communications, Secretary, Co-Chair, and Process Inclusion Officer). See the message below for more information.
As always, we are so thankful for people taking time out of their lives to connect with one another. When we did our final reflection word, many of us shared that we were energized by the time together and the connections made.
Take the next step, become a WAIC representative
Through our dialogue-based decision-making process, we have decided that the following people will represent WAIC as representatives of the organization:
Co-Chairs: Garet Prior and (OPEN)
Treasurer: Jay Edwards
Secretary: (OPEN)
Process Inclusion: (OPEN)
We are actively looking for people to take the next step of involvement with the Wilsonville Alliance and fill open roles. If you are interested, please read the position descriptions and email us (connect@wilsonvillealliance.org) with any questions or if you would like to discuss this further!
SquareSpace and MailChimp help is needed
We need help smoothing out a few bugs with our communications and refreshing the website. Mainly, to make sure that people who have signed up online for email updates are getting them!
Please reach out (connect@wilsonvillealliance.org) to us if you have experience with either of these services.
