Recap: Wilsonville Alliance for Inclusive Community gathering and business meeting
We had 11 people show up to the meeting to gather, learn more about each other, and talk about what is needed to make Wilsonville a more equitable, inclusive, and diverse community. Three people were first-time attendees! It was great to hear stories of how people came to Wilsonville. We had people who have been here for less than three years, around a decade, and 20+ years. Wilsonville has changed quite a bit in the past few decades, so this diversity of experience is highly valued.
Our activity was to contemplate, write or draw, then discuss what a diverse, equitable, and inclusive Wilsonville would look, feel, and sound like. It led to a robust discussion! About half the room used the crayons we brought, which made us happy.
For the business meeting, we reviewed our list of past actions, and future goals, and talked about what would be the most important next steps.
In preparing for our November 21 meeting, we decided that we want to accomplish the following:
Identify officer roles for WAIC: Co-Chairs, Treasurer, Secretary, and Process Inclusion Officer
Agree upon by-laws for WAIC decision-making processes
The Clackamas Community College Wilsonville Campus was an excellent meeting space and an easily hybrid option available for meetings. We are incredibly thankful that they are providing an in-kind donation of the space for our meeting going forward.
