The Need
If someone were to come to our community in need of a safe place to sleep, our response would be to find another community or sleep in your car or outside. This is a moral wrong. Wilsonville is missing an essential element of an inclusive community, emergency housing.
On the morning of October 8, a group of Wilsonville neighbors embarked on a tour to build upon the momentum of discussions at the Wilsonville Alliance for Inclusive Community’s Housing Equity Action Team (HEAT) meetings by bringing together local elected officials, city staff, and emergency housing builders and operators. We accomplished our goal of furthering discussion on what would be needed to offer this needed housing in Wilsonville as soon as possible.
The following people attended:
Nancy Scott (Family Promise)
Lyn Whelchel and Sandi Williams (Heart of the City)
Chris McDowell and Brenda Ketah (Home Builders Foundation)
Julie Fitzgerald (City of Wilsonville)
Maria Horton (West Linn Wilsonville School District)
Larry Jackson Jr. (Heart and Home Development Inc.)
Garet Prior (Wilsonville Alliance for Inclusive Community)
How You Can Help
Heart of the City is looking to build showers and house laundry facilities in its current space. If you can help with monetary or in-kind donations to meet this need, please reach out to them.
We will continue to meet with this group of people through our monthly Housing Equity Action Team meeting. These occur on the second Friday at Noon. Please email us if you are interested in attending.
